Licence log

    • Playback uses Google's public Shaka test video and an unauthenticated test licence server, so nothing confidential is protected on this page.
    • The results above are read from your own browser and device.

    The problem

Compliance training has two requirements that pull against each other. Every member of staff has to be able to watch it, including people on a factory floor or in a van with no signal. The recording itself often has to stay inside the company, because it names customers, shows internal systems, or was licensed per seat from a training provider. A plain link to a video file meets the first requirement and fails the second. With DRM the file can sit on a public CDN, and the key is issued only to a named member of staff for a limited time.

    What this demo shows

    • A real Widevine licence exchange, with the status of each key
    • The robustness levels your device supports
    • A policy check that refuses playback when the device falls short
    • Where a persistent licence fits for offline viewing
    • What the audit record of a licence decision contains

The policy, and why it is set this way

Each setting trades protection against convenience. The settings that suit exam video would make compliance training unwatchable for many of the staff who need it.

    EntitlementActive employee, course assigned
The licence server calls your HR or LMS system at request time, so a leaver loses access without anyone re-encoding or moving a file.
    Licence duration8 hours
Long enough for a shift. A licence that gets captured stops working at the end of it.
    Concurrent devices2
A laptop and a phone is normal use. Twelve devices on one account means a shared password.
    OfflinePersistent licence, 7 days
Field staff download before they travel. The licence expires by itself, so a device that is never returned loses access.
    RobustnessSW_SECURE_DECODE
Training has to play on the hardware staff already have, including older corporate laptops. Requiring hardware-backed decode would lock out the people who most need the content.
    Output protectionNot required
Staff use projectors and docking stations for legitimate reasons. Blocking them to stop a determined screen recording is a bad trade for this content.
