Licence Gateway

DRM licences under one policy model

What it is for

When each platform is configured separately, every rule lives in several places, and over time they drift apart. A concurrency limit applies on one platform and not another, an output protection rule on Android is stricter than the licensing agreement requires, and nobody can say why a particular customer was refused playback last Tuesday. Rights holders audit this, and they expect to be shown a log.

DRM licences are issued from a single policy model, through a network of multi-DRM providers together with self-hosted licence servers, so entitlement checks, concurrency limits, and output protection stay consistent across browsers and devices. Every licence decision is logged in full, which means an access dispute can be reconstructed afterwards.

What it does

  • Widevine licences from one policy
  • Entitlement and concurrency enforcement
  • Output protection and HDCP policy per tier
  • Key rotation and rolling licence windows
  • Full licence decision audit log
  • Offline playback with persistent licences

How it works

Model the policy once

Entitlement, concurrency, output protection, and licence duration are defined once for each content tier. The gateway translates them into the licence policy Widevine expects.

Check entitlement at request

Each licence request is checked against your subscription or transaction records. The check calls into your own systems, so the gateway never holds a second, out-of-date copy of who is entitled to what.

Issue and log

The licence is issued with the policy applied, and the decision is recorded in full: what was asked for, what was granted or refused, and why. You can answer a customer complaint or a rights holder audit from that record.

Rotate and expire

Keys rotate on a schedule, licence windows roll forward, and offline licences last as long as the agreement allows. None of this needs a client release.

What you get

  • Licence gateway, hosted or self-hosted
  • One policy model for every content tier
  • Entitlement integration against your existing subscription state
  • Full decision audit log with retention you choose
  • Key rotation schedule and operational runbook
  • Offline and persistent licence configuration

Who it is for

  • Platforms whose DRM rules have drifted between web, mobile, and TV
  • Services facing a rights holder audit of content protection
  • Teams adding offline playback who need the licence policy to hold up

See it working

Licence Gateway has live demos you can run in this browser. Each one applies a different policy to the same key system.
