What it is for
A second CDN does not make you resilient on its own. Most multi-CDN setups split traffic by a fixed percentage chosen months ago, so a provider having a bad hour in one region keeps its share of your audience until someone notices and edits a config. Steering on live measurements fixes that. Done naively, though, it sends everything to the fastest provider and leaves you short of the commit levels you are contractually obliged to fill with the others.
Each session's CDN is chosen from live measurements, and traffic fails over automatically when a provider degrades mid-event. The commit levels in your contracts constrain every decision, so traffic moves for performance while staying within the deals you have signed.
What it does
- Per-session CDN selection on live measurement
- Automatic failover on error and latency thresholds
- Commit-level and cost-aware traffic shaping
- Synthetic and real-user measurement blended
- Per-provider availability and penalty reporting
- Origin shield and cache-hit ratio tuning
- Coverage
- Any HTTP CDN
- Refresh
- Continuous
- Delivery
- Steering service, API
How it works
Measure continuously
Synthetic probes and real-user measurement run together. The probes catch a region going bad before much traffic is affected, and real-user measurement shows how playback actually went.
Select per session
Each session goes to the provider performing best for its region and network at that moment.
Respect the contracts
Commit levels and cost constrain each decision. Traffic moves for performance within the terms of your signed deals, so you don't fall short on a commit and pay a penalty for it.
Fail over automatically
When error rate or latency crosses a threshold, traffic shifts without anyone editing a config. Every shift is logged, so you have a record if a provider disputes an availability figure.
What you get
- Steering service, hosted or in your infrastructure
- Measurement pipeline with synthetic and real-user inputs
- Commit-level and cost model per provider
- Availability reporting you can use in contract discussions
- Origin shield and cache-hit configuration review
- Failover runbook and escalation path
Who it is for
- Platforms with two or more CDNs on static weighting
- Teams struggling to hit their commit levels, or to measure them
- Anyone who has lost an event to a degrading provider with no automatic shift
